IT Profession: The resume is your advertisement

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009 | IT Profession , Technology | 2 Comments

From this post, I will start a series where I will talk about marketing professional.

For starters, let's talk about the curriculum, because many professionals in this aspect fall short, creating resumes and disorganized with too much information, which complicates the interpretation.

The resume is your advertisement

Imagine you are a product, then your resume is your advertisement. This announcement should cause consumers (recruiter) to buy it (call for interview), of course not forget the ethics: use only truthful information.

Tip 1 - The main thing is you

Leave your name in evidence in the header with a larger font than the other data.

Tip 2 - Personal Information

When you are selling a car, the ad does not tell you what the chassis number or RENAVAM then to put that CPF and RG? It is a fact that is only useful if you are hired.
Key information:
  • Full name (in focus)
  • Marital Status and Number of Children (if)
  • Age (not birth date)
    • If her age can harm him in the post in question (being too young or too old for the desired profile) is preferred not to disclose, so that you will have a greater chance of being interviewed.
  • Residence (District and City only)
    • The same applies for residency if you live far from the company, preventing you to be eliminated before an interview.

Tip 3 - Contacts

  • Be practical, disclose only phone (s) and e-mail
  • Put the phone in order of preference, it is not necessary to specify (mobile or home)
  • Do not disclose MSN, skype or anything else that is not for commercial purposes
  • Use e-mails "serious" does not sit well with someone an email or bombado25@hotmail.com danadinha@msn.com

Tip 4 - Experiments

  • Avoid placing experiences that are not linked to activity in which you are looking for.
Ex: You're looking for a Systems Analyst job and places he worked as a bartender in nightclubs.
  • It is not necessary to define with precision the date of entry or exit, just use month / year.
  • If the period the company was less than four months, it's worth thinking twice before you put it.

Tip 5 - Organization

Separate information into segments:
  • Header with Personal Information and Contacts
  • Objective (what you're looking)
  • Training (please only the most important, discarding "key")
  • Qualification (what it does)
  • Certifications
  • Experiments (where I worked)
Business Name, Business Activity, Function, month and year of entry and exit
What made this task during this time
  • Additional Information (languages, courses and experiences extra work)

Tip 6 - Do not be extended

Place only true information and not fill sausage, the more objective and better course. The curriculum should not be longer than two pages.

Tip 7 - Personalize Resume

Have some résumés with different objectives.

In an opening for a Systems Analyst, you should emphasize their skills of analysis, programming, languages, etc.. Already in a place dedicated to customer service, for example, you should focus on their relationship and synthesis capabilities.

Listen to some tips from Max Gehringer on your podcast: Concerns mount curriculum

If have any doubt / question I will be happy to assist you (a).

In the next post will publish a model curriculum and talk a little about resumes

Note: I make it clear that I am no expert in Human Resources, Marketing or Advertising, nor did any course in the area. The information published here were created based on my opinion and experience, but should be accepted only as hints and not as an absolute truth.
